Re: looking for challenging solo maps

Solo is 90% different than multi. Solo is mostly about duffs and zerk with a little arc micro and taking no casualties against mostly mindless waves (even on legendary). Solo maps are also very linear and you usually look for a place to camp and then draw out the enemy to your trap. Multi is mostly ...

Yeah I wasn't sure it was all that useful, but check out this thread for something that might be more useful.

TerraMap template for (quality) rapid map making

Hey so after reading this thread (http://tain.totalcodex.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7010) I was thinking, 'Wow still sucks for a lot of people to make maps'. So I decided to create a template where you just grab like a mountain brush or dirt path brush and click the control panel: I'll do a p...

Re: how do a paint in a color map like this ... ?

To make a map like this is super easy. Just open whatever map(s) you like in Photoshop - set mode to RGB - create a new layer - select clone tool and choose a gritty chalk brush - set clone source to below - sample grass/base texture - clone all the grass/base texture to however you want - hide laye...

Re: Grab the Flag

Hmmm this idea seems a lot like STB already. It would be more fun if you started with multiple balls and you had to score them at the enemies start location/goal. Then you could do things like shoot with a fetch lightning/dwarfs or use a Trow or FG to try to block like a goalie. And of course strats...

Re: Map from 1998!!!

I don't mean the 'terrain map TM' from Myth. I mean the actual landscape mesh with all the triangles so I can load it and my cmap+dtexes into a 3D paint program like zbrush or 3D Coat. I've exported the displacement but I've gotten crappy/unexact results in other software. I think the current syste...

Re: Map from 1998!!!

what you're asking for is essentially what I wanted on day one and has been denied for years since that day one... a decal system, where you could paint very tiny very specific masked details in addition to the base textures. The current system is such that any given triangle can only be assigned o...

Re: Map from 1998!!!

Open a mesh tag in Oak. Right click, New Detail Map (From Terrain). It will do it based on the terrain map it has. You could always edit the terrain map first to suit your needs. Use it for Oak and then switch the terrain back to what you think it should be at. My problem isn't filling in the detai...

Re: Map from 1998!!!

There are undoubtely lots of ways you could think of to make the system better, easier, more powerful, etc. The current system was designed with specific hardware constraints in mind - for example it had to run decently on geforce 2 series hardware, which is what I was using while developing the sy...
