Myth TFL crashes when starting a new level

I am new to the forums and I checked but was unable to find another topic like this one. When I start Myth, it runs fine. It runs at my native and when I start the first level (or any level using spacebar) the brief plays and then the cinematic. Then the level loads and its fine. Once I try to restart or advance to another level, it crashes. Specifically, the screen flashes, the music for the brief plays but there is no picture. After about 3-4 secs, the game crashes. I love this game. A friend and I spent years of our life playing and enjoying it and I am just crushed that it wont work. I have Windows 8.1 64bit and the game is running the 1.5 patch. If anyone can offer any advice on how to remedy this, I am all ears. Buying a copy of Myth 2 really isnt ideal but I will do what needs to be done. Thank you.

Try this, it might help. Go to preferences and switch to Software rendering. It won't look as good as OpenGL but it helped me not crash on Win8.

Another option as you implied is playing The Fallen Levels plugin for Myth 2. Myth 2 has a "TFL Gameplay" option when selecting the map you want to play which will make Myth 2 act more like Myth TFL. If you want to make the game's interface look more like TFL then download and enable the TFL Interface in Myth2's prefs. To play TFL multiplayer maps on Myth2, get the TFL Multipack.

You don't mention it, but have you tried changing the Windows compatibility mode for the executable file (.EXE)? It might be worth trying Windows 98 mode for example.

I tried the workaround changing it to Software redering and it worked like a charm. I played several levels and they worked just fine. I also tried changing my compatibility to Windows 98 (and several others) without any luck. Thank you for both suggestions but I can confirm changing to Software rendering works. Again, thanks for taking the time to help.
