myth 1.8 bug

Post by king paris »

today i was in a mwc match, and out of the 4 games i showed up for, i crashed all 4 games. in each game the frames continually got slower, and my fps also dropped. suddenlly there would be freezes and i would need to restart my computer entirely. i have not encountered this problem before, i don't know what the issue is with 1.8 but i am unimpressed with the final release and am looking to resolve this problem so i don't crash in any more games that go longer than 8 minutes.

here is my regular myth log

I am unimpressed with your myth log. Show us one from a game you crashed. Does it crash to desktop or does it just drop you to the lobby? Try to update your NVidia graphics drivers. There is an option to automatically detect them.

Yeah, that log doesn't show a crash. If you crashed you should have some files in your myth folder called "myth_crashlog - ...", try posting one of those.

Yeah the log doesn't show a game either - ideally find a crash log, but if not please at least play a game and then post the log so we can see what settings you are using for graphics.

ok this didn't crash, but i experienced the same lag etc.
all lag ceased to happen after my shit was dead, it went back to 28 fps. other t han that it was between 0-10 fps, sometimes not even a value would show

Hmm, no smoking guns there although your GPU is fairly low-end, so it may just be legitimate performance issues. Can you tell me what your texture cache is set to in preferences?

Please visit NVIDIA.com and update your graphics drivers. I'd also recommend disabling V-sync in preferences.

If that doesn't help, you may have to disable shaders entirely by creating a poweruser.txt file as described here: http://tain.totalcodex.net/forum/viewto ... ser#p63027
Note that you'll lose some stuff without shaders like the ability to do extended zoom, but given the performance numbers you're quoting, I'm not sure that would be fast enough on your system anyways.

Give those suggestions a try and let me know what sort of FPS you get after each (say, on the default screen at the start of Willow Creek or something).

[Edit] Just saw your comments in Game 4 of your tourney (did you crash in that one?) that you were using Software there... few notes: first, software is going to be very slow at high resolutions. You said 7fps, which is not unexpected. In Software mode all rendering is done on the CPU, which is not particularly well-suited to graphics work. Second, if you're still getting crashing issues in Software mode, it might be a hardware issue. You mentioned the laptop being very hot - it's quite possible that it's overheating. When it "crashes", is it just Myth that crashes to desktop, or does your whole computer freeze/reboot/etc?

Wow using Software when you have OpenGL available? Yikes....

OpenGL and DirectX have much more modern support and can better utilize the PC's resources than software mode, which only pulls from the onboard chips, which severely limits your processing power.

EDIT: To please Melekor

This is not helpful. Please refrain from posting on the technical support forum unless you are actually doing tech support.

He was only using Software because he was getting crashes in GL Godz. And it was a good way to debug, because if you're still getting hangs/crashes in Software, it's likely some sort of hardware issue.

Yes, and if you saw earlier posts you would see he was on OpenGL first, so clearly he was trying Software to see if it would narrow down the problem.

Anyways, from the chatter on server, it sounds like he fixed the problem by removing a bunch of dust from within his laptop. He noticed an obvious improvement with the game no longer giving him lag like it was doing before.
