Myth 1.7.2 Linux - Black Boxes

Hello, this is my first time posting here. I recently decided to try and run myth 2 on Linux. However, whenever i play a game (solo & multiplayer) There are always Black boxes around every object, including my own units (in addition to the health bar and the yellow box that appears when you select the unit). These appear for birds, satchels, everything(there wasnt a box for the windmill on willow creek)
I think this problem might be caused because i first tried to run myth on linux by upgrading it with the windows patch to 1.7.2 and using wine. I later on took the 1.7.2 patch for Linux and upgraded myth.

Check if this fixes the issue, I got this from another thread with the same issue.

Go to your preferences folder in the Myth II folder. Create a "poweruser" txt file and add the following.

Code: Select all

[Renderer.OpenGL]
UseNPO2Textures=False
Now run the game and see if that fixes the problem.

Am i supposed to enter the code:select all part too?
what file type do save the file as?
do i leave it as poweruser?

Do you see what I said after "poweruser"? That is a TXT file. It was not a typo for text... TXT is the extension.

Click on "Select All" and it automatically selects the text in the code box so you can copy/paste it easily. Only the green text is what you need. I don't really know what "leave it as poweruser" means unless you meant without an extension. If so, then no. Add the TXT extension.

If you could find out and tell us what video hardware your system has it would help save others from having the same problem.

Luckily, Myth just happens to print out the video card information since 1.7.2 :wink:

Yeah looks like the same driver bug. I have no clue how Linux driver updates get pushed out (in the other thread they mentioned they had already fixed it), but the above will allow you to work around it until you get the new drivers.
