Map design considerations

Has anyone written-up thoughts/philosophy about considerations in map design? i.e.--considering symmetry vs asymmetry, defensibility of home/mid/other flags, use of water, etc.

Interesting articles, thanks.

That 2nd one, that guy seems to rather dislike symmetrical starts/approaches.

Yeah, it's not as analytical/thoughtful as the first one, but they are the only 2 I could locate. Pretty sure there are at least a couple more just can't seem to locate them. Then again, I could have just imagined them.
