While it's possible, it's also true that there are many common fantasy tropes which aren't exclusive to Myth or Diablo that appear in them both.

 common fantasy tropes? So, look this : D3 - explosive monster named "grotesque" It remembers wight of Myth ...

Image
Rupture: upon death, the Grotesque swells in size and bursts open, dealing 'explosion damage' to everything caught in the blast and unleashing several creatures from its belly. Should this move kill any hero, all that will be left are bloody chunks of his/her body. Note that, unlike most damaging abilities of monsters, Rupture causes damage to other monsters as well, including other Grotesques. The damage is high enough to instantly kill a lesser enemy on lower difficulties, but will not one-shot an adequately geared hero (beware of multiple blasts at once, though). Before exploding, Grotesque will hover for a few seconds, the visual range of the blast indicating a dangerous zone.

As Jon God pointed out, these are archetypes that stretch to the beginning of all storytelling. Even the old D&D had its "Gas Spore" creature.

And the guy on a stake? Been around since guys and stakes.

However, it is of course possible that the designer(s) took this stuff directly from Myth. Who knows?

Now that you mention all this, Bungie---like Tarantino---has borrowed a mountain of stuff from preexisting literature and movies. Ever since PID, in fact. Some of these "borrowings" aren't archetypes, at all. Homage? Maybe.

Anyway, *like* Tarantino, they did it very well. Better than anyone, really.
