Hmmm. I decided to try toggling the various options in the Graphics section of the Preferences screen on Myth II 1.7.2 Public Beta 2. I turned on 3D Fog and VSync, etc. and tried again and then the playfield was centered, just like in 1.7.1. I turned the same Graphics options off and it was still centered. So I can't seem to reproduce the problem anymore. Sorry for the trouble. I guess I'd still like to see 2560x1440 added to the list of resolutions that you can choose. Thanks. Keep up the great work, Project Magma! Thank you for keeping Myth alive all these years.

No worries, thanks for the report Darth Ed. It may be an intermittent issue if it can't be reproduced consistently, that doesn't mean it isn't a bug. I'll add it to our list of things to look into.

ok pyro, i posted the bug in the thread.

if I leave myth on overnight it is slow to respond. this has happened the last 2 nights in a row.

for specs:

windows 7, 8 gigs of ram (not going to disk unless there's a pretty big memory leak)
open gl, no tex, no vsync, no max fps
everything else on the system is running fine in the morning.

no screensaver, no sleep mode, i just turn off the monitor before i go to bed and leave things on. every other program works fine, but myth seems to freeze up. the lobby can be scrolled as can the chat but there is a large delay in processing any instructions, i dont think its recognizing all inputs. it acts like the system is out of resources. it ignores inputs (cannot chat) even though i can read lobby chat (delayed im sure). if i click "leave" it takes close to a full minute to exit the lobby and go to the main menu, clicking exit/quit/whatever it is also takes a significant amount of time. if i restart myth, everything works correctly.

tomorrow morning i'll check the task manager to see if its sucking up too many resources and update this thread if i remember.

this issue for me is new to this beta

reporting a bug

when I unplugged my headphones during a game, it caused my whole computer to just lock up completely. I had to force a reboot just to get out of it. I was able to replicate this every time I tried it, and I know it is specific to 1.7.2 because on 1.7.1 when I tried it, only my sound would be permanently screwed up, i.e. I would have no sound (for myth only.)

I am running windows XP, 4 gigs of ram, ambient sounds and 3d sound are enabled in preferences.

The behaviour you described is the standard behaviour (i.e. has been like that for a long time, not new in 1.7.2) if you select a resolution below your native monitor resolution and disable resolution switching (or if your monitor can't physically switch to that resolution).

Something I became curious about (only recently with the purchase of this new laptop and its different native res) is why there are those resolution options available if your monitor can't switch to them?

Myrd I think you missed part of what he was saying. On one run the game was centered (black bars on either side) and on another it wasn't (one big black bar on the right). Nothing relevant was changed in between, so it sounds like an intermittent bug.

That's definitely a hardware/drivers issue - Myth is a regular user process and so is not capable of locking up the system.

Oh, another issue with the profile thing. I know you fixed how you can now view profiles of ppl who have < or > in their name, but I want to use bold and italics in my profile, but when I save it, it goes back to plain. :(

I am no programmer, but you mean to tell me that in all the years of myth, every time a player has had to force a reboot in the middle of a game due to some issue freezing the game up, that it was a hardware/driver, or some other issue outside of myth?

Perhaps I am explaining this poorly. I can sit here and replicate the results 100% of the time, alternating between 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 in any order. Results being that in 1.7.1 only the sound goes away until myth restarts, and in 1.7.2 the game actually freezes. Now when it freezes, the computer will still be running normally in the background, but I cannot fully alt-tab out. When I alt-tab, the computer "tries" to alt-tab out, I can get the start menu to pop up and and I can see the bar at the bottom with my open applications. But the myth application won't minimize basically, and its frozen, so that is why I am forced to reboot.

Perhaps there is some driver issue also at play...but it doesn't rightly make any sense that 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 would have distinctly different outcomes given all else is exactly the same unless the patches had something to do with it.

Oh, how about also the possibility that units can record kills beyond 250? rather than say 250+. I want to know how many iron thralls i can kill with SB on landing at white falls on CBI :D

also can u make camera speed options available thru prefs instead of having to use local?

Okay new update on my issue after some further investigation. It has something to do with ambient sounds. I turn off ambient sounds and it acts just like 1.7.1. However, there is now a new issue, after playing around with 3d sound and ambient sounds option, my last test had 3d sound on, and ambient sounds off, and everything worked fine. However, when I went back to go turn ambient sounds on again, myth crashed upon loading of a game I hosted for testing. This is the crashlog:

According to that GKG you have stuff inside your local folder. Those should be removed.

my local folder should be empty? or just remove the "new mesh" file?

Also, the reason for the crash appears to be unrelated to my original issue. It is caused any time I try to play another game with the sound messed up from unplugging the headphone. That is not such a pressing issue since I can just remember to restart myth. My sound drivers seem to only look for myth when myth st arts and then never again. So if the headphones get plugged in, or were plugged in and then taken out, anything requiring the driver to detect a new device for the sound, it will apply it to everything but myth until myth restarts. Not sure if the issues are related, but there it is. Having to restart myth is a much lesser issue than having to restart my whole computer.

Again though, to repeat myself, only in 1.7.2, when ambient sounds is checked, and then my headphones are either plugged in or unplugged, does it cause myth to freeze completely. Doing the same thing in 1.7.1 has no effect.

The only thing really you should have in your local folder is a 'formations' folder if you have custom edited yours. That's it.

Your local does not have to be empty. Having custom formations and observer constants (camera settings) won't cause issues. Other files are usually ignored when you are on the metaserver but some might not. Usually best to remove any files from the local folder that are not the two I mentioned.
